TIF Funding Proposed for Improvements at Five Chicago Parks

Five Chicago Park District improvement projects would receive more than $32 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance under proposals introduced to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.

  • Ogden Park, at 6500 S. Racine Ave. in West Englewood, would receive $12 million from the Englewood Neighborhood TIF district to support demolition of the existing fieldhouse and construction of a new facility with a gymnasium, fitness center, club rooms and boxing room.
  • Humboldt Park, at 1440 N. Humboldt Drive in Humboldt Park, would receive $11.9 million from the Division/Homan TIF district to support fieldhouse upgrades, pool house improvements, garden reconstruction and the renovation of pathways, tennis courts and comfort station.
  • Chase Park, at 4701 N. Ashland Ave. in Uptown, would receive $7 million from the Clark/Montrose TIF district to support bathroom renovations, interior floor replacements, ventilation system upgrades, tennis court reconstruction and outdoor pathway paving.
  • Ellis Park, at 3520 S. Cottage Grove in Oakland and Douglas, would receive $1 million from the Madden/Wells TIF district to support improvements including reconstruction of the existing playground and spray feature.
  • Madison Community Plaza, at 4008 W. Madison St. in West Garfield Park, would receive $500,000 from the Madison/Austin TIF district to support improvements to the youth- and teen-oriented space.

TIF funding would support the entirety of each project's construction costs.
