The City of Sioux Falls and local healthcare systems are conducting the next Community Health Assessment to better understand the community's health and well-being and identify future priorities. As part of the assessment, Sioux Falls residents are encouraged to complete an online health survey now through Nov. 30.
The survey is part of the community's three-year health assessment process. Residents are encouraged to share their experiences, concerns and priorities.
"Community voices are essential to understanding the health needs of Sioux Falls," said Joe Kippley, the city's public health director for the City of Sioux Falls. "This assessment gives residents an opportunity to share what matters most to them and help shape the priorities, programs and resources that will impact our community over the next three years."
The Community Health Assessment, or CHA, combines resident feedback and input from community organizations and leaders with local, state and federal data. It examines factors that affect health and well-being, including life expectancy, maternal mortality, access to food and health care, transportation, household income and other community conditions.
The city's Health Department, Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, Sanford USD Medical Center and the Sioux Falls Veterans Affairs Health Care System collaborate on the assessment. Federal requirements call for local hospital systems to complete a community health needs assessment, and the partners work together to develop one comprehensive assessment for Sioux Falls.
The current CHA cycle runs from 2025 through 2028. Its priorities are:
While partners continue their work on these priorities, they are beginning the process of developing the next assessment. Survey findings will be combined with community data and stakeholder input to identify emerging health concerns and opportunities for coordinated action.
Partners expect to announce the next set of community health priorities in early 2028.
Residents can complete the survey and share it with family, friends, co-workers and community groups at siouxfalls.gov/cha.
