Germany's engagement for a rules-based international order: Cabinet approves biannual report on cooperation with the United Nations

Jointly seeking solutions to crises and wars, taking a stand for the protection of human dignity worldwide, forging strong partnerships for economic cooperation and sustainable development: these are the goals that shape Germany's engagement in the United Nations.
On Wednesday, 12 August 2026, the Federal Cabinet adopted a report in which all ministries jointly explain Germany's key concerns and its engagement in the UN system in 2024 and 2025. The report provides many concrete examples of how Germany is an active and reliable partner for multilateral cooperation.
For example, Germany assumes political responsibility by hosting international forums such as the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025 in Berlin, for example, or through its chair of the Peacebuilding Commission 2025 and, in cooperation with Namibia, playing an active role in shaping the UN Pact for the Future 2024. It also includes the provision of German personnel for UN peace missions, for example, as well as Germany's comprehensive and reliable financial contributions to the United Nations system - not least as one of the biggest donors in the field of humanitarian assistance.
It is through this engagement that Germany pursues its foreign, security and development policy objectives. Russia's ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine in particular shows how important it is time and again to actively defend the rules-based international order on the basis of the Charter of the United Nations. Only an international order founded on common rules makes Germany's freedom, security and economic prosperity possible - and only when all countries comply with these rules are we in a position to jointly tackle sustainable development and global problems such as climate change.
In order to provide the German Bundestag and the general public with an overview of Germany's engagement in the United Nations and other international organisations active on the global stage, the Federal Government publishes a report every two years.
