TWU Music announces fall performance of The Suffragist

Feb. 5, 2026 ― DENTON ― Coming this fall, the Texas Woman's University Department of Music will present The Suffragist, a musical about the woman who changed the tactics of the suffrage movement.

The musical, by composer Nancy Hill Cobb and writer-lyricist Cavan Hallman, will be performed Oct. 22-24 at the Margo Jones Performance Hall and will coincide with the conclusion of TWU's Dream Big Campaign.

The Suffragist centers on Alice Paul, who worked with Carrie Chapman Catt, the president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, and Ida B. Wells, who championed African American women's place in the fight.

Best known for her choral and orchestral compositions, Cobb drew inspiration for The Suffragist from the violence inflicted upon the American women who protested peacefully as they pursued the right to vote.
