“Project Move Out” Gears Up for End of Rutgers Year

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (May 12, 2026) - Rutgers University and the City of New Brunswick are partnering again for "Project Move Out," a free bulk waste recycling initiative to keep discarded furniture, appliances, textiles and other items off the streets and out of landfills.

There is free curbside pick-up of bulk items only for Rutgers students who pre-register by May 18 at noon. Students will be assigned a pick-up day based on their address. Register here for the service.

There is also a "Project Move Out" collection area on campus for students with a Rutgers ID. The drop-off will be available from May 18 through May 22, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., behind the College Ave Gym, Lot 30.

On Wednesday, May 20, there will be a drop off location run by the City of New Brunswick on the grass triangle at the intersection of Central Avenue and Bristol Street.

They will be there from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. (but will finish earlier if the Dumpsters are filled).

This drop off location is only for this date. Students will need to show your Rutgers ID to drop off bulk items. For comprehensive information on "Project Move Out," visit this page.
