LRE Strengthens Talent Pipeline and Supports Veterans Through TCCT Partnership

Training and building the growing workforce to meet America's renewable energy demand means working with the right partners.

That's exactly what LRE is doing in Central Texas with the Training Center of Central Texas (TCCT). Their structured solar technician training includes a Solar Maintenance Technician Program developed in partnership with major energy companies, including LRE, to prepare technicians for real-world utility-scale operations. As part of the training, students and veterans have the opportunity to connect with solar energy employees.

Based in Central Texas, just outside the U.S. Army's Fort Hood post, TCCT prepares transitioning service members for careers in utility-scale solar, battery storage, and electrical infrastructure.

The solar energy industry is expanding rapidly across the United States. The industry will need an estimated 500,000 trained technicians by 2030 to operate and maintain the growing number of solar facilities. TCCT works closely with Fort Hood, where up to 900 service members transition out of the military each month. The partnership helps veterans establish long-term careers with strong pay and advancement opportunities in the solar industry.

"One of the challenges to our industry growth is the shortage of trained solar technicians," noted LRE Chief Operating Officer Willem van der Ven. "Solar companies including LRE need professionals prepared to work safely and professionally in field environments. That's exactly what our partnership with TCCT is providing."

LRE's partnership with TCCT includes site exposure to LRE solar project sites on a quarterly basis. During a recent visit, TCCT solar maintenance technician students toured our Morrow Lake Solar site in Frio County, TX, gaining a clear view of a day in the life of a solar technician.

"Seventy percent of our students are either active-duty military or veterans," said Reginald Hodges, President and CEO of TCCT, and a Navy veteran. "When people leave the military, they're often looking for a career direction and we're helping bridge that gap. Our partnership with LRE is a perfect fit. What better way to honor veterans than to train them for a great job in a great industry."

"These men and women bring discipline, technical training, and maturity," added van der Ven. "Their experience is highly system-driven, and many are focused on building lasting careers in renewable energy. Those hired by LRE have already proven to be exceptional contributors and show strong potential as future leaders."
