Quilting Sisters of Color exhibition

She Saw a Need! Reflections of African American Culture and History through Quilting and Textile Arts exhibit opens June 13.

Experience the vibrant artistry of the Quilting Sisters of Color in a stunning exhibition, June 13-July 11, in the Art Gallery of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.

A special opening reception will be held Saturday, June 13, 7-9 p.m. in the Art Gallery. Attendees will have the chance to meet the artists behind these powerful, beautifully stitched works.

This exhibition celebrates culture, storytelling, and tradition through richly crafted quilts that blend history with contemporary design.

Celebrating their 30th Anniversary as an arts organization, Quilting Sisters of Color (QSOC) is a group of artists who share a passion for quilting and textiles. Their works have been featured at the American Airlines DFW Terminal, the TAAC - TRAHC African American Committee Museum, Texarkana, Texas, Dallas Museum of Art, Community Centers and Churches throughout the DFW Metroplex. QSOC's strong community outreach program has donated quilts to the Quilts of Valor Foundation and offered classes and presentations to bring awareness to the history and use of textiles.

The Art Gallery at The Grand is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and during public events. Exhibitions are always free to visit.

This event is part of the City of Lewisville's three-day Juneteenth: The Cookout celebration that highlights the rich African American cultural history in and around Lewisville.

The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events, including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.

To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with 35E that will cause delays.
