Camp, headquarters of the Supreme Military Command Of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
The Deputy Minister was accompanied HNDGS Chief General Dimitrios Choupis and HAGS Chief Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis. The Commander of the Supreme Military Command of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean Lieutenant General Dimitrios Vakentis received the two Chiefs. The ceremony was also attended by the Chairman of the "Athena Ioanni Martinou" Foundation Ioanna Martinou.
In his address, Me. Davakis stated the following:
" I have pointed out many times on similar occasions , that the new Greek state in the first years of its existence, was born and supported by the sacrifices of its people, and mainly of its benefactors , who were there , as it was taking its first steps, to chip in and support all its structures. This is quite obvious in Athens, and other places as well, where emblematic buildings bear their signature.
We are extremely happy, honoured and touched to witness this tradition continue unceasingly - the tradition of beneficence and the support provided to the structures of the state by the private initiative. It continues in the of faces as Mr. Kampanis and Mr. Pateras.
I feel extreme honour, pride and I am touched, because, as member of the political leadership of our Armed Forces I witness the continuation of this beneficence, the continuation of this example set by modern Greeks. They set an example we should all follow.
Mr. Kampanis, Mr. Pateras, I would like to thank you on behalf of the Greek people and on behalf of our Armed Forces. I believe that this tradition will continue as long as people like you exist, people who tear up when they see our flag, when they see the worthy members of our Armed Forces and when they speak filled with emotion about our remote national outpost, our archipelagos".
