Ukraine, Lithuania, and Poland must be effective in their cooperation to protect their sovereignty and their peoples, and this is how all countries - both in our region and across Europe as a whole - should act. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized this following a meeting of the heads of state in the Lublin Triangle format in Vilnius.

"We talked about air defense and how we can strengthen Ukraine. Karol, Gitanas, and I agreed that our teams will continue working on the issues related to the SAFE and PURL initiative. These are very important programs that truly help us," the Head of State noted.

The PURL initiative is already demonstrating its effectiveness. Thanks to this initiative, European partners can procure missiles for Ukraine's air defense. SAFE, meanwhile, requires principled decisions: there must be a clear percentage allocated to cooperation and co-production with Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also thanked Lithuania and Poland for their support for Ukraine's energy sector and for the people who are enduring the consequences of heinous Russian strikes - through equipment and other assistance.

During the meeting, the leaders also discussed the diplomatic process, first and foremost cooperation with the American side. The President of Ukraine stressed that pressure on Russia must not be reduced; Europe must be sufficiently resolute - stopping Russian tankers, blocking propaganda, and cutting off schemes to circumvent sanctions.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that continued joint work is necessary to ensure that the institutions of a united Europe are effective and that the European Union is a global leader.

"Ukraine must be in the European Union. We all understand this absolutely clearly. I am very glad that our partners - Lithuania and Poland - support Ukraine within the European Union. And for us, this is one of the guarantees - I have said this many times: one of the security guarantees for Ukraine is membership in the European Union," the Head of State emphasized.

Gitanas Nausėda called Ukraine's membership in the European Union a strategic interest.

"This would be a decisive step toward ensuring long-term stability, security, and prosperity not only for this country, but also for this region - toward peace in this region," the President of Lithuania emphasized.

He also believes that Ukraine must be integrated into Europe's security infrastructure and that Ukraine's experience should be adopted. Therefore, long-term funding for the Ukrainian army must be ensured.

The President of Lithuania noted that cooperation among the countries of the Lublin Triangle in the field of historical memory has great potential. According to him, a major conference of Lithuanian, Polish, and Ukrainian historians is expected this year.

Karol Nawrocki noted that 163 years after the January Uprising, Russia remains a threat to Central and Eastern Europe. According to him, this is precisely why it is important to support regional formats of cooperation.

"At the forum in Davos, we spoke a lot about the Three Seas Initiative, as well as about the Visegrad Group. During today's meeting, we discussed the activities of the Lublin Triangle across many areas. Our cooperation is quite broad in this sense, and I want to thank you for keeping this format alive," the President of Poland said.
