MAYOR'S UPDATES

  • Week of the Young Child: It was great to visit CLC Palmers Hill and read to students to celebrate the Week of the Young Child! Early childhood education plays a critical role in shaping a child's development, laying the foundation for lifelong learning, growth, and success. Thank you to all the incredible educators and staff who support and care for our youngest learners every day.
  • 2026 Mayor's Community Microgrant Program: I am thrilled to launch the 2026 Community Microgrant Program, building on the incredible momentum of our 2025 cycle. Last year, we awarded over $75,000 to nearly 40 recipients who spearheaded vital neighborhood projects, from sustainable community gardens to local youth leadership workshops and neighborhood beautification. This year, we are looking for even more creative ways to strengthen our community. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on April 27th and can be emailed to [email protected]. To learn more and apply, visit this website: stamfordct.gov/microgrant26.
  • School Construction Corner:
    • Construction of the new Westhill High School is now underway: Early site work begins this week, with activity increasing steadily throughout the year. We're excited to move this project forward and are looking forward to hosting an official groundbreaking celebration in late May. Students will remain in the current building until the new school opens for the 2029-2030 school year. Thank you to our community for your continued support as we take this important step forward for Westhill's future.
    • Celebrating Architecture Week: In recognition of Architecture Week 2026 (April 12-18), the City of Stamford's Operations Department connected our ongoing infrastructure investments directly with the next generation of residents. Katherine LoBalbo AIA, Director of School Construction, visited kindergarten and third-grade classrooms at Roxbury Elementary School to read stories that emphasize the teamwork and creativity required to build a community, highlighting the real-world impact of our city's school construction efforts, including the upcoming rebuild of the Roxbury K-8 School, as we work to provide modern and safe learning environments for all students.
