On May 11, 2026, Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government Qian Bo met with a joint delegation of the Tongan Parliament and Government led by Lord Vaea, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga in Beijing.
