OSCE Secretary General visits Montenegro, reaffirms strong partnership and support for regional security

PODGORICA, 29 June 2026 - OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu concluded his official visit to Montenegro today, reaffirming the Organization's strong partnership with the country and its commitment to supporting security, democratic governance and stability across South-Eastern Europe.

During his visit, the Secretary General met Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović. Discussions focused on regional security, and the OSCE's continued co-operation with Montenegro in addressing shared challenges and advancing common priorities through completion of its strategic plan for 2025-2027 in preparation for the planned mandate completion at the end of 2027.

"Montenegro and the OSCE have built a strong partnership over the past two decades, grounded in trust, dialogue and a shared commitment to security and stability," said Secretary General Sinirlioğlu. "I welcome the close co-operation we enjoy and look forward to continuing our work together in support of Montenegro's priorities and regional security."

The visit coincided with several important milestones, including twenty years of partnership between Montenegro and the OSCE, and the 20th anniversary of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro. Over the past two decades, the Mission has worked closely with national institutions, civil society and the media to support democratic governance, security sector reform, the rule of law and other key priorities.

The Secretary General also visited the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, where he met with Mission staff. "I thank the entire Mission team for their dedication, professionalism and for their contributions to the reform process in the country. Our close cooperation with Montenegro will continue even after the Mission's mandate concludes at the end of 2027."
