Your Guide to Celebrate Dr. MLK Jr. Weekend in St. Pete

January 14, 2025 - St. Petersburg's MLK Power of A Dream Weekend begins this weekend, January 19, 2025, with a monumental parade to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This year's 39th Annual MLK Parade will feature bands from all across the nation to entertain the St. Pete community. The parade will also feature city officials for residents to meet.

Here's all the information you need for the weekend's event:

*Accessibility: The parade route is accessible for people with disabilities, and special viewing areas will be designated

Getting to the Parade & Parking Pro Tips

Please plan accordingly and consider leaving early to account for traffic and find parking for a stress-free arrival.

  • Tip #1: Find downtown parking locations at www.stpete.org/parking. Note, access to the SouthCore Parking Garage will be moved to 2nd St. S, on the north side of 1st Ave. S on Jan. 19 for the parade.

  • Tip #2: Parking will be free at Tropicana Field on January 19 for the parade. Note, on Jan. 20, access to Lot 5 will not be allowed once the bicycle racks are in place at around 9 a.m. All vehicles parked in the lot after the racks are in place will not be permitted onto the roadway until the parade is over.

  • Tip #3: Ride the SunRunner and PSTA Buses. Note, that the SunRunner will be rerouted during the parade to Central Ave. More at www.PSTA.net

  • Tip #4: Consider ride share or bike or scooter share.

Please Note:

Certain SunRunner stations will be closed on Jan. 19 from 7:30 a.m. until the MLK Parade concludes.

  • 13th St. S (Tropicana Field)

  • 8th St. S

  • 5th St. S

  • 4th St. S

  • 6th Ave. S (University of South Florida)

  • 3rd St. S

For the abovementioned stops, the SunRunner will depart from the 22nd Street S Station, travel down Central Ave, and resume service at the 1st Street N Station. The 1st St N SunRunner Station will remain open for the day of the parade."

Parade Day Road Closures

The following roads will be closed starting Monday, January 19, at 8 a.m. for parade setup:

  • Central Ave., from Bayshore Dr. to Beach Dr.

  • 1st Ave. S, from 3rd St. S to Bayshore Dr. SE (3rd St. will remain open until approximately 10:30 a.m.)

  • Bayshore Dr. SE, from Central Ave. to 5th Ave. S - 1st St. S

  • 1st St. from 1st Ave. S to 4th Ave. S (North and South bound traffic on 1st St. will be open for PSTA Buses Only)

The following roads will be closed starting Monday, January 19, at 10:30 a.m. for the parade route:

  • 1st Ave. S, from 3rd St. S to 16th St. S (parade route)

  • 16th St. S, from Central Ave. to 5th Ave. S (drop off route)

  • 1st Ave. S, from 16th St. S to 20th St. S (parade dispersal area)

  • 3rd Ave. S, from 16th St. S to 19th St. S (parade dispersal area)

City of St. Petersburg Holiday Closures, Trash & Recycling Collection Adjustments

Certain City facilities and services will be closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Residential trash and recycling collection scheduled for Monday will be made on Tuesday. Tuesday collections will be made on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday collections remain the same.
