Kyrgyz Republic Celebrates Independence Day Today

Today, the Kyrgyz Republic celebrates Independence Day.

On 31 August 1991, an extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet of Kyrgyzstan adopted the decision on the Declaration of State Independence of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. In 2026, the country marks the 35th anniversary of its independence.

This historic act laid the foundation for the establishment of the Kyrgyz Republic as an independent, sovereign and democratic state.

Following independence, Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed its commitment to the universally recognized principles of international law, as well as to friendship and cooperation among peoples, while maintaining the obligations it had previously undertaken.

Festive events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of independence will be held throughout the country.

This year, additional days off have been designated in connection with the holiday: for those working a five-day week, four consecutive days off from 29 August to 1 September; for those working a six-day week, three days off from 30 August to 1 September.
