PASADENA, Calif - The City of Pasadena Public Works Department will be hosting its fourth public outreach event for the Brookside Park Stormwater Capture Project. The City invites the community to join the project team for a Design-Focused Meeting to share design progress for the proposed regional stormwater capture project.
This Design-Focused Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 22, from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Mediterranean Room at the Brookside Golf Club, 1133 Rosemont Ave. The community is invited to explore the refined project design and see how nature-based solutions are incorporated to enhance the parking lot. Attendees can discover the proposed bioswale habitat, its role in stormwater management, and watershed benefits. There will be Earth Day themed activities and refreshments for all to enjoy. Parking is available in Lot CH, D, and along Rosemont Avenue.
The Brookside Park Stormwater Capture Project will improve water quality in the Arroyo Seco and Los Angeles River while increasing water supply by recharging Pasadena's Raymond Basin. The project, located just south of the Rose Bowl in Lot I, adjacent to Brookside Park, will integrate both underground green infrastructure and above-ground improvements to improve stormwater and urban runoff. This comprehensive system will divert flows from the Seco Street Drain through a series of below ground treatment components, including a pre-treatment unit, before reaching a 5.10 acre-feet subsurface infiltration gallery. Above ground nature-based solutions, including shade trees and vegetated bioswales, will improve surface runoff pollution. Collectively, this project aims to capture, treat, and infiltrate stormwater and dry weather runoff from over 1,100 acres of the city, returning a portion of treated water to the Arroyo Seco Channel, to maintain ecosystem health and address water quality improvement goals.
The Department of Public Works is leading this design with funding from the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Water Program (SCWP) Measure W program. The SCWP provides local, dedicated funding to increase local water supply, improve water quality, and protect public health.
