City to Activate Orange Flag Overnight Cooling Center on September 4 and 5

The City of Greensboro will activate an Orange Flag cooling center Sunday in response to the extreme heat.

Operated by Greensboro Community Safety Department staff, the Orange Flag cooling center will be open Friday, September 4, and Saturday, September 5, from 7 pm to 7 am at the Interactive Resource Center (IRC), 407 E. Washington St. It is available to single adults and families.

The IRC also will open as a day cooling center on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm.

Activation of the Orange Flag overnight cooling center occurs on days when the forecast daytime temperatures and/or heat index reach 90 degrees or higher, and overnight temperatures are not expected to fall below 70 degrees.

September 5 will the 60^thday the City has activated the Orange Flag overnight cooling center since June 6 and the seventh day in a row.
