DOJ secures guilty plea in brutal rape and murder

A Dover man has pled guilty to multiple charges including Murder, Rape and Abuse of a Corpse for the 2024 assault and murder of Myeshia Triplett.
On November 6, 2025, Kyle Batson, 27, pled guilty to Murder 2nd Degree, Rape 1st Degree, Strangulation, Abuse of a Corpse and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The plea follows an investigation into the September, 2024 assault and murder of Myeshia Triplett near the 700 Block of Catawba Avenue in Wilmington.
"The loss of Myeshia Triplett is an absolute tragedy," said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. "I am deeply grateful to our DOJ team and our partners at the Wilmington Police Department for their work in holding this criminal accountable for his monstrous actions; may it bring the victim's family some peace as they heal from this horrific loss."
"I am extremely proud of the dedication and perseverance shown by our investigators and partner agencies in bringing this case to a successful resolution," said Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos. "It is my hope that this plea, and the sentence that follows, will offer the Triplett family some measure of comfort in knowing that the individual responsible for Myeshia's death has been brought to justice."
On September 12, 2024, Batson raped and murdered Myeshia Triplett in an alleyway near the 700 Block of Catawba Avenue in Wilmington. Batson subsequently stole a motor vehicle and fled to Howard County, Mayland, where he was involved in a collision and was taken into to custody. He was extradited back to Delaware on December 4, 2024.
Batson is slated for an open sentencing which is currently scheduled for January 30, 2026, where he faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 32 years, with a maximum of two life sentences plus 28 years in prison.
