On 11 May 2026, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, briefed the foreign diplomatic corps and international organisations in Thailand, a total of 73 representatives, on the outcomes of the 48th ASEAN Summit on 8 May 2026 in Cebu, the Philippines, attended by H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, and the trilateral meeting between the leaders of Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia, held on 7 May 2026.

The Permanent Secretary underscored the significance of this ASEAN Summit, which focused on the impacts of the situation in the Middle East on ASEAN. Thailand proposed strategic approaches (promoting regionalism, resilience, relevance) for ASEAN to adapt and cope with the current geopolitical landscape and context which has seen the rules-based international order undermined, resulting in increasing crises and conflicts, while Thailand reaffirmed its full commitment to supporting ASEAN's efforts in responding to food and energy security and protecting the safety of ASEAN nationals.

On the situation in Myanmar, the Permanent Secretary briefed the diplomatic corps that the ASEAN leaders shared a common view on the need to rethink its approach towards ASEAN's engagement with Myanmar, while on the trilateral meeting the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia agreed to task their Foreign Ministers to work together on a list of confidence-building measures, with a view to rebuilding trust and confidence and gradually restoring bilateral relations.
