On October 27, the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations held a meeting at the UN Headquarters under the theme of "Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Taiwan's Recovery and Upholding the Authority of General Assembly Resolution 2758". Ambassador Fu Cong presided over the meeting and delivered the keynote speech. Participants included Mr. Munir Akram, former Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN and a witness to the adoption of Resolution 2758, Mr. Chen Dongxiao, President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, as well as envoys from nearly 40 countries such as Algeria, Russia, Brazil, and Pakistan.
Ambassador Fu emphasized that China's National People's Congress recently designated, pursuant to the Constitution, October 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration. On the same date in 1971, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority, restoring the lawful seat of the People's Republic of China at the United Nations. This demonstrated the international community's solemn commitment to upholding the one-China principle. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. This is an unshakable fact grounded in both history and law. The so-called "theory of the undetermined status of Taiwan" is a lie deliberately fabricated by a very small number of forces. Any attempt to distort or misinterpret Resolution 2758 is a challenge to the post-war international order and the authority of the United Nations. Such efforts are doomed to fail. The firm international consensus supporting the one-China principle will not be shaken. China's complete reunification is an unstoppable historical trend.
Participants congratulated China on the designation of the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration. They jointly reviewed the historic moment and great significance of the adoption of Resolution 2758, and highly commended the contributions the People's Republic of China has made to world peace and development since the restoration of its lawful seat in the UN. They reaffirmed their commitment to the one-China principle, to safeguarding the authority of Resolution 2758, and to supporting China's efforts toward complete reunification.
