Washington, D.C. -Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today announced he secured another $15.3 million in federal funding for mid-Michigan as the House of Representatives passed legislation (H.R. 7148) to fund the government. This bipartisan spending package, which President Donald Trump signed into law this afternoon, included funding for the Departments of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and others.
The new funding will invest $15.3 million towards seven local infrastructure and development projects in Brighton, Eaton Rapids, Maple Rapids, Clinton County, Oakland County, Shiawassee County, and at the Capital Region International Airport.
"Today, Congress did its job and took a big step towards fully funding the federal government for the remainder of the fiscal year," said Barrett."The package we delivered today is a big win for taxpayers in mid-Michigan who will see more than $15 million I secured for real infrastructure projects. This funding will help build better, more reliable roads and bridges and give our region a much-needed economic boost. I will keep working to make sure Michiganders' tax dollars are spent in a way that supports them and their local communities."
The investments will support the following road, bridge, drain, and other real infrastructure projects:
"This nearly $8 million in federal funding is a critical infrastructure investment for the Capital Region International Airport (LAN). Replacing our passenger boarding bridges is a necessary upgrade that directly supports the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our facilities for our tenants, airline partners and passengers," said Nicole Noll-Williams, president and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Authority (CRAA)."We are grateful for the continued support of our federal legislative partners Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin and Rep. Barrett, whose advocacy helps ensure LAN remains a safe, modern and competitive gateway for the Mid-Michigan region."
The funding builds on nearly $131 million Barrett had already secured for projects in mid-Michigan - bringing the total Barrett has secured for local projects this Congress to more than $146 million. He previously secured $4.1 millionfor public safety projects and agricultural research, as well as $126.6 millionfor public safety, youth mentoring, and nuclear physics research.
