Application Period Now Open for 2026 Sustainability Awards

Frederick County, MD - Big ideas, committed leadership, and everyday actions are shaping a more sustainable Frederick County and it's time to celebrate the people behind that progress.

The Frederick County Sustainability Commission is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Sustainability Awards. Through June 30, individuals, students, businesses, and organizations making meaningful contributions to a healthier environment and more resilient community can be nominated or apply for themselves.

The award recognizes actions such as energy efficiency initiatives, improving air and water quality, promoting renewable energy, conserving resources, enhancing natural habitats, and other innovative actions that move Frederick County toward a greener future.

"Across Frederick County, people are finding creative and meaningful ways to care for our environment," said Rayla Bellis, Climate and Energy Manager for Frederick County. "These awards showcase the impacts of that work and can inspire even more action in our community."

Selected by the Sustainability Commission, award recipients reflect the diversity of sustainability work happening locally-from grassroots volunteer efforts to large-scale business initiatives. Winners will be announced this fall and recognized at a public celebration highlighting their achievements.

Community members are encouraged to submit nominations for individuals or groups whose work deserves recognition. Whether it's a student project, a business innovation, or a neighborhood initiative, every effort counts.

An online application, program details, and past award winners can be found at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/SustainabilityAwards. Questions may be directed to [email protected].
