Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is partnering with Visit Long Beach to activate the Bixby Park Bandshell for "Canceled? Never Heard of Her!" with emcee and host Jewels. The event will bring the community and visitors together to celebrate and uplift Long Beach's LGBTQ+ community. It will take place on Sunday, May 17 from noon to 7 p.m. at Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.), following the Long Beach Pride Parade, a City-funded and operated event.

"Long Beach Pride weekend is a culmination of celebrations put on by our community, including our many vibrant restaurants, bars and businesses, and that will never change," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "Along with the Pride Parade, we are proud to join the party with this new event that reaffirms what this City has always stood for: that every person belongs here. Long Beach Pride weekend goes on. The spirit goes on."

This free event will feature Jewels Long Beach as emcee and will include a vibrant lineup of local and renowned performers:

  • 12 - 4 p.m.: Music by DJ Jasper X, DJ LaVonda Rocks, Joe Stevens and Clint Jūn
  • 4 p.m.: Drag Show, including Jewels and Friends, featuring Emmy Award winner Delta Work
  • 5:30 p.m.: Galactivators

"The festival may have been canceled, but Long Beach drag artists don't cancel joy," said Jewels Long Beach. "We're turning Bixby Park into a celebration of community, creativity and fabulousness."

This event is being made possible with support from Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and the Office of Long Beach Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen.

"In this moment in time, the community needs each other more than ever. Myself, Supervisor Hahn and Visit Long Beach have come together with the help of Jewels and City staff to create a safe space to gather," said Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen. "Bixby Park is epicenter of our queer community and is the ideal location to add another event to celebrate and recognize Pride.

This event marks the culmination of a Pride weekend full of joyful, inclusive and community-centered celebrations. When challenges arose in the days leading up to Pride weekend, the City moved quickly by working with partners to share Pride event information, support locals and visitors by activating microtransit options and additional Long Beach Transit buses, set out additional restroom facilities on Broadway to support increased traffic in the area, and open a permit operation to support bars and restaurants with questions on what else they can do to accommodate visitors.

Information regarding the free event at Bixby Park, additional Pride weekend events as well as additional transit options can be found at VisitLongBeach.com.
