Concord, NH - Attorney General John M. Formella announces that Michael Vieu (age 60), of Boulder, Montana, has been sentenced by the Merrimack County Superior Court on one count of being an Armed Career Criminal, and one count of Possession of a Controlled Drug.
After the defendant pleaded guilty, the court sentenced the defendant to serve 12.5 to 25 years in state prison on the Armed Career Criminal charge. On the charge of Possession of a Controlled Drug, the court sentenced the defendant to 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison, all of which is suspended for five years from the date of the defendant's release.
The evidence in this case established that on October 31, 2025, a New Hampshire State trooper pulled the defendant's vehicle over after observing a motor vehicle infraction. The defendant was found to be in possession of a .45 caliber handgun and over 150 rounds of ammunition, as well as an amount of methamphetamine. The defendant had previously been convicted of several violent offenses in multiple jurisdictions, including charges of Assault to Murder and Aggravated Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury (Franklin, MA Superior Court, 2009); Robbery (Grafton Superior Court, 2000); Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Hampden, MA Superior Court 1986); and Burglary (Hampden, MA Superior Court, 1983).
The investigation and resolution of these cases were the result of collaborative efforts of the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and the New Hampshire State Police. The case was prosecuted by Whit Skinner of the Attorney General's Drug Prosecution Unit.
