Representative Derek Tran Holds Town Hall Meeting

Westminster, CA - Yesterday, U.S. Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) held a town hall meeting in Westminster to hear directly from constituents about their concerns amidst the ongoing government shutdown. Tran welcomed questions from constituents and addressed key issues impacting CA-45 residents.

"When I talk to people in our community, they're not concerned about partisan games in Washington. They're concerned about rising costs that might force them to choose between keeping the lights on and keeping food on the table. They're concerned about their health care becoming unaffordable or losing it altogether," said Representative Tran in his opening remarks."Families in Southern California deserve to afford the care that they need to stay healthy. Families in Southern California deserve a government that works for them. I'm here tonight because I know how important it is for you to hear directly from me what I'm doing to fight for you. No matter how scary or frustrating things seem in Washington, I will always be here for you."

In the town hall meeting, Representative Tran responded to constituents' concerns regarding national security and the increased presence of immigration enforcement agents across Southern California. He underscored his commitment to keeping his community safe.

Representative Tran also heard from constituents facing the growing pressure of the government shutdown, which has interrupted food assistance for 316,000 Orange County families and caused health care costs to rise for 35,000 people in CA-45. Having grown up on SNAP and Medicaid himself, Tran highlighted his work to guarantee the delivery of critical nutrition assistance benefitsand protect access to affordable health care. He stressed his dedication to bipartisanship, urging his Republican colleagues to return to Washington to work with Democrats on a compromise to reopen the government and preserve the affordable health care thousands in Southern California rely on.

Representative Tran and his team remain committed to using every opportunity possible to hear directly from constituents and bring their voices back to Washington. Tran has previously hosted two back-to-back town hall meetingsin Cerritos and Brea, in addition to telephone town halls and frequent community engagements. His team also holds Mobile Office Hourstwice monthly, visiting cities throughout the district so constituents can easily access assistance with federal agency casework.
