San Francisco - Caltrans is alerting motorists and the public that crews working on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Painting Project will continue maintenance activities requiring overnight lane reductions on eastbound Interstate 80 (EB I-80). These reductions begin Friday October 30, 11 p.m. until Saturday, October 31, 7 a.m.

Motorists should expect significant traffic impacts when traveling from EB I-80, San Francisco to the East Bay between these hours. Lane reductions will begin approximately 500 feet east of the Sterling Street on-ramp and extend for about 2.2 miles.

To safely accommodate construction operations, lane closures will be phased in as follows:

  • One lane closed beginning at 11:00 p.m.
  • Two lanes closed beginning at 12:00 a.m. (midnight)
  • Three lanes closed beginning at 1:00 a.m.
  • Four lanes closed beginning at 3:00 a.m.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, expect delays, and use caution when traveling through the work zone. Whenever possible, travelers should consider alternate routes during the overnight closure period.
