A Bulgarian delegation is participating in the 67th plenary session of the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation in Georgia

A Bulgarian delegation participated in the 67th plenary session of the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) in Georgia. The head and the deputy head of the Permanent Delegation of the 52nd National Assembly to PABSEC, Milen Trifonov and Aiten Sabri, as well as its members Alexandra Valcheva and Vasil Goranov, took part in the forum's proceedings.

The meetings of the Bureau of the Assembly and the Standing Committee were chaired by the President of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili. The main documents related to the conduct of the plenary session, the report on PABSEC's activities, budgetary and organizational matters, as well as the proposals of the Standing Committees regarding the Assembly's work in the second half of 2026 were reviewed and approved.

The PABSEC Bureau decided to appoint Petar Kanev, head of the 51st National Assembly's delegation to PABSEC, as PABSEC's special representative to international economic and business organizations.

During the plenary session, the new delegations from Albania, Bulgaria, and Georgia were accredited. The delegates held an election for vice-presidents of PABSEC, and the head of the Bulgarian delegation, Milen Trifonov, was elected vice-president of the Assembly and became a member of the PABSEC Bureau, along with the heads of the delegations from Georgia and Romania.

The delegates unanimously elected Ali Ustyundag (Republic of Turkey) as Deputy Secretary General of PABSEC, responsible for administrative and financial matters.

During the general debate on the topic "Artificial Intelligence for Regional Cooperation-Innovation, Connectivity, and Sustainable Development in the Black Sea Region," the head of the Bulgarian delegation, Milen Trifonov, emphasized the importance of new technologies in promoting economic development, regional connectivity, and sustainable growth. He highlighted the need for the development and application of artificial intelligence to be based on the principles of transparency, security, the protection of fundamental rights, and international cooperation.

During the plenary session, the delegates adopted the reports and recommendations of the Committee on Legal Affairs and International Cooperation and the Committee on Social and Humanitarian Policy.

From July through December 2026, the Greek Parliament will assume the presidency of PABSEC, taking over the rotating presidency from the Parliament of Georgia. As the presiding parliament, it will host the next meetings of the Bureau, the Standing Committee, and the General Assembly of PABSEC, which will take place in November 2026 in Athens.
