The Johannes Kepler University Linz spin-off Ablatic AI developed Talos, a European Large Language Model for use in businesses. The focus is on regulated sectors, data sovereignty in Europe, GDPR-compliant processing, and transparent AI. The market launch is planned for August 2026.

Europe needs both efficient Artificial Intelligence and solutions that meet the high requirements of data protection, transparency, and digital sovereignty. This is what Ablatic AI offers: Talos was developed especially for sectors like banks, insurance and software companies.

Ablatic AI was founded by Florian Zimmermann, CEO, and Julian Mauerkirchner, CTO. They came up with the idea as they were searching for AI solutions for companies together. It became apparent that existing European models often do not offer the necessary performance for demanding use cases, while international solutions can entail high costs and dependencies on non-European infrastructure.

"The JKU and the LIT Open Innovation Center are the best places to put AI innovations of the idea on the market. Ablatic AI and Talos show, how committed researchers, LIT infrastructure, and cooperation partners such as the AI Factory Austria AI:AT enable data sovereignty and cutting-edge performance together through the EuroHPC program," says JKU Rector Univ. Prof. Dr. Stefan Koch.

Research, infrastructure, and market transfer

Being a JKU spin-off, Ablatic AI is an integral part of the Austrian AI ecosystem. The company cooperates with the AI Factory Austria AI:AT, and uses European high-performance computing resources within the framework of the EuroHPC program to develop and optimize its language models. The connection of universities, European infrastructure, and the implementation by companies creates the basis to turn research rapidly into AI solutions that are ready for the market.

"Together with our strong partner in the AI:AT consortium, the Johannes Kepler University Linz, we create the prerequisites for scientific excellence through European AI infrastructure, as well as for innovative applications. Ablatic AI is a convincing example that shows, how this transfer can work in reality," says Dr. Karl Kugler, Co-Lead AI Factory Austria AI:AT.

European approach for regulated sectors

With Talos, Ablatic AI continuously follows a European approach. The language model is operated on infrastructure in Austria and other computing centers across Europe. The customer data is not used in trainings. Companies stay in control of their data and receive AI solutions tailored to the legal and operational requirements of European organizations.

A corporate beta test of Talos was run with over one hundred companies. The official market launch is planned for the end of August 2026. More technical details, benchmarks, partners, as well as first applications will be published in the press release of the launch.
