ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY - Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) joined Rockville Centre Police Commissioner Randy Dodd and Officer Al Robinson for a tour of the Rockville Centre police station and a ride-along in the Village. Rep. Gillen was briefed on the challenges facing the police department and discussed ways that Congress and the federal government can further support local police departments.
"Thank you to Police Commissioner Dodd, Officer Robinson and all of Rockville Centre's brave officers for their dedication and service," said Rep. Gillen. "The safety of our community and these officers depends on continued support and resources for their department. I'm proud to have secured over $1 million for security cameras for the Rockville Centre Police Department and will continue fighting to bring back more federal dollars home from Washington to make Nassau County safer."
"I want to thank Congresswoman Laura Gillen for taking the time to see firsthand the work our officers do each and every day to keep our residents safe," said Commissioner Dodd. "It is important that our elected representatives have the opportunity to understand the challenges our officers face and the dedication they bring to their jobs. We sincerely appreciate Congresswoman Gillen's continued support of our department and our officers, and we look forward to continuing to work together to maintain the safety of one of the safest communities in the State of New York."
This visit follows Rep. Gillen's meetings and ride-alongs with the Floral Park, Garden City, Malverne, Hempstead, Freeport and Lynbrook Police Departments and continues her efforts to meet directly with first responders across New York's Fourth Congressional District.
Since taking office, Rep. Gillen has been a strong advocate for law enforcement, bringing millions of dollars in new federal public safety funding to Nassau County. As a member of the bipartisan Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus, Gillen introduced the Officer Wellness and Peer Support Act and has cosponsored the Protect and Serve Act, Invest to Protect Act and the HERO Act, which aims to improve the detection, prevention and treatment of mental health issues among public safety officers.
