The new Permanent Representative of Togo to the United Nations, Koffi Akakpo, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Mr. Koffi Akakpo is an ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary and currently serves as Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Togo to the United Nations in New York, a position he has held since 2021.
With more than two decades of experience in diplomacy, international cooperation and multilateral negotiations, he has played a central role in representing Togo within the United Nations system and in advancing the country's priorities across major global processes.
Prior to his assignment in New York, Mr. Akakpo held several senior leadership positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Togo.
He served as Director of International Cooperation (2015-2019), where he oversaw bilateral and multilateral partnerships, coordinated major joint commissions, and supported the organization of high-level missions abroad.
From 2019 to 2021, he was appointed Director of Togolese Abroad, contributing to the design and operationalization of the High Council of Togolese Abroad and the Diaspora Service Window, two flagship initiatives aimed at strengthening engagement with the Togolese diaspora.
In 2020, Mr. Akakpo served as Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assuming the responsibilities of the position during the absence of the incumbent and ensuring continuity in the Ministry's administrative and diplomatic operations.
From 2010 to 2015, Mr. Akakpo served as Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Togo in New Delhi, managing diplomatic relations with India and several countries in South Asia.
Earlier in his career, he held key positions within the Ministry, including Head of the Europe-America-Oceania Division at the Directorate of Political Affairs and Policy Analyst at the Directorate of General Administration.
At the United Nations, Mr. Akakpo is Expert of the Second Committee and coordinates the work of the six main committees of the General Assembly, ECOSOC and the Security Council within the Mission. He serves as Togo's focal point in New York for the Pact for the Future, FfD4, Our Common Agenda, the 2030 Agenda, LDC issues, the OIC and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Mr. Akakpo has received two Excellence Awards from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Togo, being distinguished as Best Coach in both 2018 and 2019, recognizing his commitment to capacity-building and professional development within the diplomatic corps.
Mr. Akakpo holds a Diploma in Diplomacy from Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC) - Cameroon and a Master's degree in Economic and Management Sciences, option Management Sciences from the University of Lomé (Togo).
