Fish Salvage Order Issued for Karolyn’s Pond

Idaho Fish and Game has issued a fish salvage order for Karolyn's Pond near Elk City, effective immediately through Sept 30, 2026.

During the salvage order at Karolyn's Pond:

  • Fish may be taken by any method except the use of firearms, explosives, chemicals or electric current.
  • All bag, possession and size limits, including restrictions on the number of fishing rods, are suspended.
  • A valid Idaho fishing license is still required.
  • No live fish may be transported from the pond.

Low stream flows in Red River have prevented adequate water from reaching Karolyn's Pond. As a result, pond levels have declined and water temperatures have increased, creating unsuitable habitat conditions for trout.

Water levels are expected to continue declining unless streamflow conditions improve. Fish remaining in the pond are unlikely to survive as water levels decrease and temperatures remain elevated. Therefore, an order of salvage is warranted to maximize public use of these fish before conditions deteriorate further.

Anglers are encouraged to take advantage of the salvage opportunity and harvest fish from Karolyn's Pond while suitable fishing conditions remain.

For more information about the salvage order, contact the Idaho Fish and Game Clearwater Region office in Lewiston at 208-799-5010.
