OCTA Updates OC Bus Service to Meet Evolving Travel Needs Across Orange County

August service change includes reliability and regional connection improvements, with enhanced Route 57 service to Cal State Fullerton as students return for fall classes

ORANGE - The Orange County Transportation Authority is making a series of OC Bus service adjustments beginning Sunday, Aug. 9, as part of ongoing efforts to adapt transit service to the evolving needs of people who live, work and visit Orange County.

The August service change includes seasonal schedule updates, reliability improvements and route adjustments designed to better match scheduled travel times with conditions on the road, improve connections and make OC Bus service more useful and efficient for riders.

Among notable changes, Route 57 will extend short-line service to Cal State Fullerton University, providing more efficient service to the university area as students begin returning to campus for fall classes later this month. The campus is home to more than 45,000 students.

Students across Orange County are also encouraged to take advantage of programs that can make riding OC Bus more affordable, including OCTA's Youth Ride Free pass, available through the Wave fare payment system. It allows eligible youth, ages 6 to 18, to ride OC Bus at no cost.

OCTA's Community College Pass Program and University Pass Program also provide free or reduced-fare bus rides for students at participating community colleges and universities throughout Orange County, helping connect students with campuses, jobs and other destinations countywide.

Four routes will receive some of the most significant changes:

• Route 30: A new alignment will serve Los Cerritos Center via Gridley Road, Artesia Boulevard and Studebaker Road, supporting connections between Orange County and neighboring Los Angeles County communities
• Route 57: Short-line service will be extended to Cal State Fullerton via State College Boulevard, Chapman Avenue, and Commonwealth Avenue, improving access to the university and more efficiently serving students and other riders traveling to the campus area.
• Route 64: The route will be realigned to serve the Goldenwest Transportation Center via Bolsa Avenue, Goldenwest Street, McFadden Avenue and Gothard Street.
• Route 86: Service will be added to Families Forward at 8 Thomas in Irvine, providing transit access to the nonprofit organization and surrounding area.

The August service change also transitions several routes from summer schedules as schools resume and seasonal travel patterns change. Route 1 will return to its regular weekday schedule while continuing its summer schedule on weekends. Routes 29, 47 and 89 will return to regular schedules on all days, with Route 89 also receiving a minor schedule adjustment.

Additional minor schedule adjustments will be made on Routes 30, 35, 38, 50, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 60, 64, 86, 89, 123 and 529. These changes are intended primarily to improve on-time performance, better reflect actual travel conditions and strengthen connections with schools and other transit services.

OCTA regularly reviews OC Bus service and makes adjustments throughout the year based on ridership, travel patterns, traffic conditions, operational performance and changing community needs. These updates help ensure bus service remains reliable, efficient and responsive while making the best use of available resources to serve people traveling throughout Orange County.

The new schedules take effect Sunday, Aug. 9.
