Breakthrough Sought in 1996 Case

WESTERVILLE, OHIO (July 28, 2026) - This July marks the 30th anniversary of the unexplained disappearance of Robert "Rob" S. Mohney. The Westerville Division of Police (WPD) is issuing a renewed call for information, urging anyone with details, no matter how small, to come forward and help bring long-awaited answers to the family and community.

Case Details and Timeline

• Date of Disappearance: July 16, 1996

• Last Known Location: Mohney's residence in Westerville, Ohio

• Circumstances: After making dinner, Rob abruptly left his home mid-meal, leaving his wallet behind. Neighbors reported seeing him drive away alone down Central College Road.

• Vehicle Involved: Red 1995 Pontiac Firebird. Later that evening, Columbus Watershed officers discovered the vehicle abandoned in the upper west lot of the Hoover Dam.

• Status: On March 7, 2006, the Franklin County Probate Court issued a death certificate for Robert Mohney. Despite dozens of interviews and multiple property searches over three decades, his remains have never been found.
