Yaw: Over $400,000 in State Funding Awarded in Sullivan County

HARRISBURG - State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) today announced $430,122 has been awarded to two projects in Sullivan County. The awards were considered at today's Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) meeting and approved through the Authority's Local Share Account (LSA) statewide program.

"These investments address two important needs in Sullivan County: improving critical infrastructure and maintaining access to quality healthcare," Yaw said. "Upgrading Davidson Township's wastewater facility will help it better withstand future flooding, while improvements to the Sullivan County Medical Center will provide a safer, more comfortable environment for patients and staff. This funding will make a real difference for residents and strengthen essential services, and I was pleased to support both of these projects."

Davidson Township was awarded $224,000 for wastewater treatment plant improvements. The Village of Sonestown along Muncy Creek has experienced many high-water flooding events, causing overflows and damage to the current facility. Funding will be used to address structural deficiencies, improve flood resiliency and prevent future damage.

Sullivan County has also been awarded $206,122 for upgrades to its medical center located in Laporte Borough. Funding will be used to replace the medical center's failing multizone HVAC system with a modern, energy-efficient VAV system to address unreliable temperature control, high humidity and poor indoor air quality. These upgrades will restore proper climate control across five zones, improve comfort and safety and help keep healthcare services affordable for this rural community.

"The County-owned Laporte Medical Center plays an important role in keeping healthcare services available locally, with primary care provided by Laurel Health and a number of other health services that benefit our community. We saw an opportunity to protect that taxpayer-owned facility and strengthen it for the future by pursuing funding for a much-needed HVAC upgrade," said Scott Myers, Sullivan County Commissioner. "We're grateful for the ongoing support of Sen. Yaw and his team in helping us continue investing in healthcare access here in Sullivan County."

Local Share Account funds are generated by the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which provides for distributing gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within Pennsylvania.
