AUSTIN - The Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) commends the Railroad Commission of Texas on its recently issued permit that will allow Occidental to safely sequester CO2 from its STRATOS Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility. The facility will use DAC technology to capture anthropogenic CO2 and inject it for permanent storage deep underground.
Texas' action to advance this type of project sends the right message to investors that Texas remains open for business and looks forward to taking advantage of the tremendous economic opportunities with carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. The permit is also an example of how Texas can lead in supporting technology that will help increase oil recovery and strengthen energy security.
This is in contrast to recent action in Louisiana, where the Governor issued an executive order placing an indefinite moratorium of review on new CCS applications and additional scrutiny and requirements on already filed, pending applications.
