Pinellas County waives residential tire disposal fee to help reduce spread of dengue fever

To help reduce mosquito breeding and limit the spread of dengue fever, Pinellas County Solid Waste is waiving residential tire disposal fees from Sept. 28 to Oct. 30, 2026.

During this time, Pinellas County residents may dispose of up to four tires, no more than 36 inches in diameter, at no charge at the Solid Waste Disposal Complex, 3095 114th Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

Tires must be separated from other trash or waste. Rims may remain attached. Residents must show a valid driver's license as proof of Pinellas County residency.

Tires stored outside homes can collect water and become breeding sites for thousands of mosquitoes over a single season. Removing unwanted tires and other sources of standing water helps reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses, including dengue fever.

The disposal fee waiver does not apply to businesses. Businesses can find tire disposal fees at Pinellas.gov/SWfees.

The Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed-toed shoes are required onsite. For more information about hours and safety requirements, visit Pinellas.gov/SWhours.

Pinellas County is currently under a mosquito-borne illness alert. Locally acquired dengue fever cases have been reported across the Tampa Bay area, and Pinellas County Mosquito Control has increased surveillance, inspections and treatments.
