Flags Flown at Half-Staff on September 11

Published on September 11, 2026

The flags outside Palo Alto City Hall, the Municipal Service Center, and all City buildings and fire stations are being flown at half-staff in commemoration of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in suburban Pennsylvania. This year marks 25 years since that fateful day that killed nearly 3,000 people.

September 11 has since been designated Patriot Day and under federal law, Patriot Day directs the U.S. flag to be lowered to half-staff each year on this day.
