New Traffic Signals at North Peoria Avenue and Mohawk Boulevard Mark Progress on Peoria Connection

Vision-funded initiative supports economic development and neighborhood improvements along North Peoria Avenue

The City of Tulsa and the North Tulsa Economic Development Initiative (NTEDi) will celebrate the completion and activation of new traffic signals at North Peoria Avenue and East Mohawk Boulevard on Friday, September 4, marking another step forward in improvements planned through the Peoria Connection initiative.

The Peoria Connection is a Vision-funded economic development initiative focused on improving the North Peoria Avenue corridor between 56th Street North and Mohawk Boulevard. The City of Tulsa, Tulsa Planning Office, and NTEDi are working together to make the corridor more attractive for new development while supporting neighborhood pride and community investment.

In addition to the new traffic signals, Peoria Connection projects include:

• New trees along Peoria Avenue between Mohawk Boulevard and 56th Street North, in partnership with Up With Trees.
• New streetlight poles along the corridor, in partnership with Public Service Company of Oklahoma.
• A storm sewer project on the east side of Peoria Avenue at 52nd Street North to address maintenance challenges associated with a steep ditch.
• Community cleanup events with volunteers to remove litter along the Peoria Avenue corridor.
• Decorative streetlight poles with banners also are planned as part of the initiative.

Additional improvements are taking place along North Peoria Avenue through separate funding sources. These include street rehabilitation projects between 36th Street North and 46th Street North, as well as between 46th Street North and 56th Street North, and sidewalk projects to complete sidewalks along Peoria Avenue between Mohawk Boulevard and 56th Street North.
