GREENSBORO, NC (April 28, 2026) - The Greensboro Police Department has terminated the employment of a police academy cadet who was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and false imprisonment.
Maceo John Cannon, 20, was charged in connection with an incident on April 21 in which he confronted a woman about her driving while he was wearing a jacket with GPD patches on it and while placing his department-issued laptop on his personal vehicle in plain view, according to the arrest warrant.
Greensboro Police detectives were alerted to the incident by a citizen's report and immediately began an investigation.
Cannon has posted a $1,500 unsecured bond for the misdemeanor offenses, according to online booking records.
"While state law limits what we can discuss with regard to personnel matters, we want our community to know that this department believes in the importance of transparency and accountability," Interim Chief Chris Schultheis said in a statement Tuesday morning.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
