IPA President, Gvantsa Jobava, delivered a speech at the beginning of the first day of Book 2.0 during the session "Words without Borders." Book 2.0 is organised by IPA's Portuguese member APEL.

Book 2.0 continues to grow and this latest edition was another two full days of detailed discussions about the future of the book sector.

In her speech, IPAPresident Gvantsa Jobava highlighted IPA's mission, the value of publishing and knowledge, and the importance of unity on a collective mission. She emphasized the evolving role of publishing in safeguarding democracy, promoting freedom of expression, and inspiring the future of reading.

This year's theme, "The Reinvention of the Species," served as a backdrop to reflect on how publishing continues to adapt and lead with vision in a changing world. "The book industry's role is not merely to survive change, but to inspire it, illuminate it, and lead it with vision," she said.

Her speech called for unity across the publishing community to defend freedom to publish, strengthen democracy, and ensure that books continue to raise free, courageous, and dignified citizens.
