On 1 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, briefed members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations in Thailand on his recent diplomatic engagements and foreign policy priorities, as follows:

1. On 21 - 22 April 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister visited the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and paid a courtesy call on U Min Aung Hlaing, President of Myanmar, and U Nyo Saw, Vice President of Myanmar. He also held discussions with U Tin Maung Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, and U Than Swe, former Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar. The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand's role in helping to build bridges between Myanmar and ASEAN, as well as Thailand's continued support for sustainable peace in Myanmar. He also inquired about the status of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and was informed that she remained in good health and that further positive developments would be considered. Subsequently, on 30 April 2026, Myanmar transferred Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from detention to a designated residence, a development welcomed by the Thai side.

2. On 23 - 25 April 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister welcomed H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC) during his visit to Thailand. Both sides co-chaired the 3rd meeting of the Consultation Mechanism between the Foreign Ministers of Thailand and China in Bangkok and Krabi Province. Foreign Minister Wang Yi also paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister. The visit reaffirmed both sides' shared commitment to advance the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, as well as to their cooperation in upholding regional peace and stability. It was also an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

3. On 28 April 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister attended the 25th ASEAN - EU Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) in Brunei Darussalam. The meeting discussed ways to advance cooperation under the ASEAN - EU Strategic Partnership across all dimensions and exchanged views on key regional and international issues. They underscored the importance of upholding the rules-based international order amidst an evolving global landscape to ensure the relevance of ASEAN and the EU in addressing challenges through strengthened cooperation and various joint initiatives. These include expediting negotiations towards an ASEAN-EU Free Trade Agreement, advancing the transition to renewable energy, and combating transnational crime, particularly online scams.

4. On 27 April 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister met H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, on the sidelines of the ASEAN - EU Ministerial Meeting in Brunei Darussalam. Both sides welcomed the consolidation of the ceasefire in accordance with the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Session of the General Border Committee (GBC), held on 27 December 2025, and reaffirmed their commitment to continue utilizing existing bilateral mechanisms to resolve differences. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the significance of rebuilding mutual trust and confidence by enhancing cooperation in border security and management, including collaboration in combating online scams and promoting regular consultations between the armed forces of both countries.

The briefing was attended by 84 diplomats and representatives of international organizations in Thailand, representing 57 countries, the European Union, and seven international organizations.
