JMSDF ship AKEBONO makes port call in Colombo

The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) ship AKEBONO arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill visit this morning (28 Oct 25). The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.

The 150.5m long JMSDF AKEBONO is a destroyer, commanded by Commander ARAI Katsutomo and the ship is manned by a crew of 158.

During the stay in the island, crew members of the ship will explore some tourist attractions of Sri Lanka. The itinerary also includes professional engagements with the Sri Lanka Navy, designed to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two naval forces.

Concluding the visit, JMSDF AKEBONO will depart the country on 31 October, after conducting a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with a Sri Lanka Navy ship in the Colombo seas.
