Courtney: Canceled Troop Deployment to Poland Sends a Horrible Message to Allies & Adversaries

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, at a House Armed Services Committee hearing with the Secretary of the Army and Acting Chief of Staff of the Army, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, called out the Trump Administration's cancelation of the deployment of 4,000 soldiers to Poland.

"Frankly, it's not just our adversaries that are paying attention, it's our allies. Poland… is an ally that's spending 4.8% of GDP in terms of their defense budgets. And all the other Baltic countries are up in that range as well," Courtney said. "And given the fact that the Administration also is pulling back 5,000 troops out of Germany, I'm sorry, I just think this is a horrible message that, again, our adversaries and allies are paying attention to."
