The City of Salinas wants to hear from you!
The City of Salinas is seeking community input on a proposal to rename the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) to "Salinas City Heritage Park". This proposal was originally submitted by the Heritage Park Stakeholders and moves forward with a recommendation from the Library and Community Services Commission. It will go before the City Council for consideration at a Public Hearing on June 2, 2026.
The site hosts iconic local landmarks, including:
The First Mayor's House
The Southern Pacific Freight Building (housing the Welcome Center)
The Monterey and Salinas Valley Railroad Museum
The Intermodal Transit Center (ITC) serves as a major downtown transit hub. Beyond transit, the area is home to multiple local landmarks that represent Salinas' rich history. The proposed name change aims to formally unify and recognize this space.
