Vehicle access returns to North Cheyenne Cañon Park Thursday

Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services will reopen North Cheyenne Cañon Road to vehicle traffic on Thursday, July 2, following extensive cleanup and repair work after recent storm damage. Gold Camp Road within North Cheyenne Cañon Park will also reopen to vehicles on Thursday.

Over the past several weeks, City crews have completed significant recovery work throughout the park to restore safe public access. Work included removing large amounts of scree and storm debris, repairing damage on Gold Camp Road, clearing roadside culverts, removing roadside vegetation, installing fresh roadway crossing markings and new crossing signs, and continuing repairs to the park's historic stone retaining walls.

"We want to thank our community for its patience and understanding while the City worked to safely reopen North Cheyenne Cañon Park," said Scott Abbott, Regional Parks, Trails and Open Space Manager. " Our crews put in an incredible amount of work to remove debris, repair storm damage and safely reopen the park."

On Saturday, July 4, for Independence Day the North Cheyenne Cañon Park will be open to vehicle traffic until 2 p.m. or until the park reaches vehicle capacity, whichever occurs first. To help manage visitor safety and traffic, Gold Camp Road will be closed to vehicle traffic for the entire day on July 4. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, expect heavy traffic and follow all posted signs and directions from park staff.
