Public Safety Update: Bellflower Sees Significant Progress in 2026

The City of Bellflower is seeing strong, positive results in public safety for 2026 as City Council priorities outlined in the Strategic Plan continue to deliver measurable results through strategic investments in public safety. The City has experienced a 25% reduction in Part I crimes, which include the most serious offenses against people and property. This downward trend outpaces several neighboring communities, as Artesia has seen a 16% drop and Paramount has seen a 14% decrease.

As part of the City's continued focus on enhancing public safety and improving quality of life, the City Council prioritized investments in technology, enforcement and proactive safety strategies. Recent safety enhancements include the deployment of advanced gunshot detection technology to improve response times and the installation of license plate reading cameras to identify stolen vehicles and suspects.

The City is also taking a balanced approach to improve quality of life through the launch of the Bellflower Enforcement and Safety Team, known as BEAST, to address homeless encampments. Additionally, the City continues to operate the New Hope Shelter, providing people experiencing homelessness with a path toward stability, while strengthened code enforcement efforts continue to address illegal businesses.

City officials credit public safety personnel, community partners and residents for working together to keep the community safe and thriving. Residents are encouraged to remain engaged and report suspicious activity to help maintain this positive momentum. With continued investment and community involvement, the City remains focused on building on this momentum and maintaining a high quality of life for all residents.
