Ansari, Arizona House Democrats Respond to Secretary Noem’s Visit to Nogales

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Representatives Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03, Greg Stanton (AZ-04), and Adelita S. Grijalva (AZ-07), released the following statements in response to Secretary Noem's press conference in Nogales, Arizona:

Representative Ansari:

"I'm the proud daughter of immigrants - my parents fled Iran and a corrupt, authoritarian regime. I won't sit by and watch as the country they saw as the shining example of democracy becomes an authoritarian regime as well. Under Kristi Noem's direction, ICE has murdered two U.S. citizens in broad daylight, and dozens have died behind closed doors in detention centers funded by your taxpayer dollars. Kristi Noem must be impeached."

Representative Stanton:

"At FEMA, she likely cost American lives by bottlenecking critical disaster aid to consolidate power. Now her attempts at securing the border sit stalled on her desk, as Axios reported today. The pattern is clear: she prioritizes control and photo ops over any real work to keep Americans safe," Rep Stanton said. "If Donald Trump won't fire her, Congress must."

Representative Grijalva:

"Secretary Noem's visit to Nogales is a publicity stunt, plain and simple. Instead of listening to local leaders, she continues to push for militarization, treating border communities like war zones rather than places where families live, work and thrive. Ambos Nogales is, and always has been, a proud, vibrant community - not a prop for Trump's anti-immigrant agenda that has sown chaos and cost American lives. Yesterday, I voted against continued funding for DHS because Secretary Noem is enabling violence, racial profiling, and terrorizing our communities. She must stop the fearmongering, end the political theater, and resign immediately - or be impeached."
