People’s Unity Day Celebrated in Republic of Belarus
The national public holiday was established in 2021 by a decree of President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The document states: "This day became an act of historical justice for the Belarusian people, who were divided against their will in 1921 under the terms of the Treaty of Riga, and has become firmly established in the national historical tradition."
The holiday symbolises national unity, the state and territorial integrity of Belarus, as well as its independence and sovereignty.
