Securityplus and United Way Make an Impact on Earth Day

Securityplus Federal Credit Union continued its commitment to community engagement and environmental awareness this Earth Day through a meaningful volunteer partnership with United Way of Central Maryland.

On April 22, 2026, Securityplus team members Elijah Thornton and Shelton Hunter volunteered at Bay Brook Elementary Middle School, helping bring Earth Day lessons and activities to life for students in first through seventh grade. The initiative focused on educating students about environmental responsibility and empowering them to make positive everyday choices that support a healthier planet.

Throughout the event, students participated in interactive activities designed to promote sustainability, environmental awareness, and community stewardship. Elijah and Shelton played an active role in guiding discussions, engaging with students, and helping reinforce the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.

Their efforts not only supported a successful Earth Day program but also reflected Securityplus Federal Credit Union's ongoing dedication to serving the community through meaningful partnerships and volunteerism.

"This is what it looks like when purpose meets action," said Obinna Ndukwe, Chief People and Impact Officer at Securityplus Federal Credit Union. "By investing our time and energy into our communities, we are not only supporting today's students, we are helping shape a better future for all."

The initiative also highlighted Securityplus' CARES values (Collaboration, Agility, Respect, Excellence, and Spirit) through hands-on service and community impact. By partnering with organizations like United Way of Central Maryland, Securityplus continues to create opportunities for employees to make a difference beyond the workplace.

"At Securityplus, we believe community impact starts with showing up," Ndukwe added. "We are proud of Elijah and Shelton for representing our organization and helping inspire the next generation to care for the world around them."
