Have your say on the new Europol regulation

The European Commission is reviewing the current mandate of Europol, the European Union Law Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation. This legislative initiative aims to strengthen Europol's operational role to effectively respond to the evolving security landscape and tackle serious forms of online and offline crime and terrorism.

The Commission is seeking input from public authorities as well as private stakeholders, such as members of the public, academia, NGOs, and private companies, within the EU and beyond.

The consultation aims to gather insights on:

  • the implementation of the Europol Regulation, focusing specifically on its effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence, EU added value and impact;
  • identifying possible needs and gaps;
  • collecting quantitative and qualitative evidence to help the Commission to identify and select possible options and other measures to support Member States;
  • existing EU tools and organisations, as well as their operational functioning.

The Commission published the consultation on 23 October. The call is open for feedback until 15 January 2026 (midnight Brussels time).
