City of Garland Ends Negotiations with Atlético Dallas

The City of Garland has made a difficult decision to stop negotiations with Atlético Dallas for the planned soccer facility at the intersection of Holford Road and the President George Bush Turnpike. The City believes under the proposed deal structure there would not be a large enough return on its $70.87 million investment.

The site remains a valuable asset for Garland, and the City is committed to finding the right partner that will provide the best return and protect our taxpayers' interests. The City also wants to ensure any major investment is consistent with the direction voters endorsed through recent bond programs and economic development initiatives.

"It's really important that we make the right financial decisions now to set our future, and ultimately our community, up for success," said Mayor Dylan Hedrick. "We are committed to being good stewards of public funds and will ensure any investment not only provides lasting value for our residents and businesses but also strengthens Garland's position as a destination and economic driver."

Moving forward, the City will continue to prepare the site for high-quality development through infrastructure improvements funded by the 2019 Bond, including the reconstruction of Holford Road. Consistent with the 2025 Economic Development bond that voters supported by an overwhelming 70 percent, the City will also continue pursuing a destination attraction on this site, which may include a soccer complex.

The property's strategic location along the President George Bush Turnpike presents a premier opportunity for Garland. It's well-positioned to attract mixed-use development that could bring new retail, commercial amenities, housing options and long-term economic growth. More information on future plans will be shared as it becomes available.
